After graduating, he returned to his hometown of New York, where he completed his veterinary studies at Yale - New Haven Hospital. He then went south and received his DVM from the University of North Carolina School of Veterinary Medicine in Chapel Hill in 2017.
After graduating, he joined the Connecticut Equine Clinic in 2014 and completed his residency at New London Veterinary Medical Center. He was accepted in 2016 for his master's degree in veterinary medicine at the University of North Carolina School of Veterinary Medicine in Chapel Hill.
After graduating, he moved back across the country to the Mystic Veterinary Clinic, where he practiced and worked with Eugene until his death, surrounded by amazing mentors and collaborators. He started Home Care Veterinary Services and later opened his own veterinary clinic, Mystic Equine Clinic. Wietsma opened the Pets in Need Clinic in 2013 to provide high-quality veterinary care to animals facing severe financial challenges.
